Born on October 18, 1941, in Floq, Korçë, Urim Elezi is one of the most prominent figures of resistance against the communist regime in Albania. He spent 25 years, 3 months, and 15 days in prison due to his unwavering stance against the dictatorship.

First arrested on October 26, 1963, at the age of 22 while serving as a soldier, Urim was sentenced to 18 years in prison for “hostile activities.” In 1980, he was arrested again and sentenced to an additional 10 years for spreading propaganda among prisoners, famously describing life under the communist regime as a “collective prison.” His courage and steadfastness made him a symbol of resistance against the regime‘s injustices. He was released from Reparti Nr. 305 Përparim (now Shën Vasil) on February 12, 1989.

Urim’s life took a positive turn after meeting Vjollca Nedo (Elezi), who became his wife and greatest supporter. Born on January 26, 1957, in Korçë, Vjollca comes from an Orthodox family in Devoll. The couple first met at the Korçë Court, where Vjollca worked. Together, they built a loving family and became parents to two daughters, proving that love and hope can triumph over even the greatest hardships.
