Leze Dedë Ndreaj

Photographed in the Museum „Site of Witness and Memory“, Shkodra

Born in 1946 in Tropojë, Leze Ndreaj experienced the harsh realities of communist repression from a young age. Shortly after the regime took power, her father, Pal Dedë Ndreaj, spoke out against communist policies. To avoid arrest or execution by the authorities, he fled Albania, leaving behind his wife and two young daughters.

Leze, an innocent child just 2 years old, was interned with her mother and sister in the infamous Tepelenë Camp. The difficult living conditions, countless deaths of her peers, and constant hunger left a deep imprint on her memory. After their time in Tepelenë, their internment continued in the camps of Lushnjë.

Nearly a decade later, they returned to their hometown, but the family was not welcomed back. Leze eventually settled in Shkodër, and on March 10, 1993, the commission established to verify periods of administrative punishment officially recognized her internment from Bajram Curri to Tepelenë and Lushnjë, spanning from 1948 to 1957.
